Shawn about his life with the Cleveland Cavaliers:
I always see the Cavaliers' franchise as one big Roller Coaster Ride ever since we entered the NBA, a ride that never reached its ultimate 'high' though! Like every other Cleveland native, it put a hole in my heart to see His Highness stay up in the Air and land "The Shot". Even worse was the "The Decision", because it showed how badly a local lad can hurt our egos. Between those lows were betraying highs like our come-from-behind series win over Pistons in 2007. Up for some time, low for some time, and it goes on and on.
Late in the eighties and early nineties, we were a regular playoff-bound team, winning franchise-best 57 regular season games twice only to be repeatedly mowed down by the Jordan-led Bulls. Before Jordan ever found a way around the Pistons, he knew how to flatten us every time we got up and started running. We were only unlucky to have had such a good winning team at the same time and conference as Jordan. Reaching the Conference finals in 1993 was one of the best results of that time, then the team imploded and stayed as a lowly lottery team until 2003.
As in a Roller Coaster, every low brings in an about-turn and in came LeBron James from Akron. It was such a gripping story for a long time on how we landed the right piece, and how our decade long struggle was answered by the Draft. Step by Step we climbed back on the ride, reaching second round of playoffs first, and then following it up with a Conference finals win next year; We were in the Finals, yes we did. How sweet it was, if not for the Spurs sweep! We were up again in 2008 winning 66 regular season games, then we became the first ever team in NBA history to win eight straight playoff games by 10 or more points. Despite having a two-time defending MVP, 2010 ended on a sore note at the hands of Celtics. The ride started hurtling down when LeBron quit in the Playoffs, and then left us in the Free Agency. 2011 meant even more misery giving us a record of the longest losing streak in the History of Pro-Sports. And the ride goes on. |
