Throughout the years that I was watching the NBA, I always associate Los Angeles with the Lakers, leaving the poor Clippers under the Lakers' shadow. I mean, who would notice a team that is always being shadowed by the championship rings and trophies that the yellow and gold team brings to the Staples Center. I hate to admit it, but the Lakers clearly are the better team when these two Los Angeles based teams square off against each other. The way I see it, L.A. is about Kobe Bryant and not about Elton Brand, or Corey Maggette.

This sad perception of the Clippers did not remain long, as other news articles stated the improvement of the Clippers throughout the 2004 to 2005 season. It was the season where the Clippers actually had a better standing compared to the Lakers at that time. And as the years passed, improvements from Elton Brand, Chris Kaman, Cuttino Mobley, and Corey Maggette brought the Clippers back to the playoffs during the 2005 to 2006 season. This achievement marked the team's first playoff spot since the year 1997, giving fans like me to consider the thought of supporting the Clippers just in case the Lakers won't make it to the finals.

Though the team didn't advance much to the playoffs during the middle 2000s, it was not too bad either since the team has been showing improvements ever since. And just when every one starts to dismiss the idea of the Clippers advancing to the earlier rounds of the playoffs, a spectacular array of dunks and facials from Blake Griffin brought back hopes to the said idea again. Griffin was so electrifying, that his presence alone helped ease off the load of the 2010 to 2011 roster of Baron Davis, Chris Kaman, and another high flyer in Eric Gordon. This talented lineup of the team continues to elevate the status of the Clippers from being the Lakers' shadow, to a threatening competitor for the Western Conference championship for whoever team there is in the west.
