Unlike a lot of Canadians I was a fan of the NBA long before the expansion into Canada. I am also a big fan of the NHL but I have preferred basketball for a long time. When news of the expansion into Canada first broke in the nineties I was very happy.

I am not originally from Toronto or Vancouver but I felt a connection with the Canadian teams and initially followed both of them. Now the Vancouver Grizzlies are the Memphis Grizzlies, I only follow the Toronto Raptors. The team are such a huge part of my life that when it was time for me to go to University, the team was a major part of my decision to attend the University of Toronto. It wasn't the only reason of course but being able to watch games live was a major plus for me. I have settled in Toronto and owe a lot to the Raptors. I met my wife here, found a great job and built a life in a city I love, I probably never would have moved here if not for the Toronto Raptors.

The team was established in 1995 and is relatively young for a sport franchise. Usually expansion teams struggle against the much more established and experienced competition and it was no different for the Raptors. It took around ten years for the team to find it's feet. The 2006 season ended in a Division title win and playoff qualification and was my favorite season as a Raptors fan. I had just left University and for the first time in my life I had a lot of disposable income and was able to attend every home game that year.

I have been regularly attending our home games ever since and my favorite player during my time as a Raptors fan has to be talented power forward Chris Bosh. He was one of our best players every season during his time with the Raptors.
