Why you should watch Orlando Magic online

Josh about the Orlando Magic:

The Orlando Magic was a dangerous team in the east. I say it again, "was" a dangerous team in the east. Back in the day, when the Magic had a good cast of supporting players around a solid, perennial, All-Star center named Dwight Howard, the Florida-based team was one of the top contending teams in the east.

However, things changed just last season.

Finishing with 52 wins and 30 losses before bowing down to the Joe Johnson-led Atlanta Hawks in the playoffs, Dwight Howard and company knew that this performance wasn't "the" Orlando Magic performance they have been playing. The people of Orlando just cannot imagine what happened: first, the reliable, clutch player (who hit timely jumpers during the 4th quarter) named Hedo Turkoglu was traded to the Toronto Raptors. Being a big loss to the dangerous perimeter shooting offense that the Magic loves to play, the management brought in a washed-up Vince Carter who wasn't as explosive as he was before in his glory days at Toronto and New Jersey. And then during the middle of the 2010-2011 season, when the Magic realized that all Vince Carter ever did was to shoot (and miss) three point shots, the management replaced him and brought in what appears to be a younger version of Carter, the former slam dunk champion, Jason Richardson, who happens to have the same game as VC: jack up a lot of three point shots. Just when you think they haven't had enough big changes, another devastating move spread out: the management got rid of Rashard Lewis, an all-around player who has great outside shooting and plays solid defense. The supposed answer to this? In comes Gilbert Arenas, an All-Star point guard who was one of the best scoring point guards during his stint with the Washington Wizards.

Again, he "was" one of the best scoring point guards. As seen last season, "Agent Zero" wasn't a hero in any of the Magic's games. He rarely took over the game, often bothered by knee injuries that slowed down the once unstoppable clutch player who shot threes with his eyes closed. These trades were enough to bring the team to the playoffs, but it wasn't enough to form a solid team that can take on the Atlanta Hawks, a team that has two superstars, but was beat down by a one-man scoring machine known as Derrick Rose, Chicago Bulls' top point guard and currently the league's Most Valuable Player.

It doesn't mean that the Magic isn't a good team, they just need a lot of time to get back on track and have these players work on their game. Before all these trades happened, the Magic was a dangerous team because they can deliver in both offense and defense. In offense, any man guarding Dwight Howard in the post will most likely be eaten alive. Try double-teaming Howard and this gives a lot of open shooters that can certainly knock down jumpers: Jameer Nelson, Hedo Turkoglu, Rashard Lewis, and even JJ Reddick. Defensively, these guys can play solid defense, not to mention Dwight Howard being continuously in the list of most number of blocked shots and rebounds.

As a Magic fan, I maybe disappointed with the performances of the new players and management decisions, but that doesn't mean that there is no more hope for this team. Maybe, if Agent Zero can bring back his game, this would ease up the load of Dwight Howard. Maybe, if Stan Van Gundy starts JJ Reddick along with Jameer Nelson, he can have two solid guards who can knock down jumpers, along with a healthy Jason Richardson. Make all these guys healthy, and we might see the Orlando Magic once again the Eastern Conference Champions.
