The history of the Miami Dolphins dates back to 1966 when the AFL owners and Commissioner Joe Foss made a decision to bring an expansion team to the Miami area. The owners at the time Joe Robbie and TV star Danny Thomas decided on the name of the Miami Dolphins. The Stadium they played in was called the Orange Bowl, and at this initial gang, the crowd was 26,776. The opponent were the Oakland Raiders, and the Dolphins lost this game 23 to 14 in favor of the Oakland Raiders. The first win came on October 16 against the Denver Broncos, and the Dolphins won 24 to 7. The Dolphins didn't end the season with a winning record. They had a losing season at the 3-11.

In 1967, the Dolphins drafted a quarterback from Purdue name Bob Griese with their fourth pick in the draft, but they went on to have another losing season and finished at 4-10 that year. In 1968, the Dolphins drafted a Syracuse running back by the name of Larry Csonka with their eighth pick. Still they went on to end the season with a 5-8-1 record. Quarterback Bob Griese threw for 2,473 yards with 186 completions, and 21 touchdowns. The Dolphins moved to a new stadium in 1987 known as Joe Robbie Stadium from 1987-1995. In 1996-2004, they played in what was known as Pro Player Stadium. Finally, in 2005-2009, they played in the Land Shark Stadium.

The Dolphins had coaches like George Wilson from 1966 through 1969, Don Shula from 1970 to 1995, Jimmy Johnson from 1996 through 1999, Dave Wannstedt from 2000 through 2004, just to name a few. In 2008 coaches Tony Sparano took over the job as head coach, and is still the Dolphins head coach today.

The Dolphins enjoyed five Super Bowl appearances. Two Super Bowl wins, seven AFL/AFC championship games, 13 division titles, and 22 playoff appearances, with a record in playoff games of 20 wins and 20 losses. During the 1972 and 1973 seasons, Miami fans saw the Dolphins with undefeated seasons. It has been a memorable history for our Miami Dolphins.
