Alexander about his favorite player of the Oakland Raiders:
Marcus Allen was known to be an amazing talent even before the Oakland Raiders drafted him in 1982. He won the Heisman Trophy while playing at USC and had twelve 200-yard rushing games in college, tying him for the most ever with two other players. The drafting of Allen started a string of successful years for the Raiders, of which Allen was an integral part.
His first year Allen was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year as he rushed for 697 yards in a nine game strike-shortened season. The Raiders lost to the Jets in the playoffs that year. In his second year, however, Allen made an even larger impact when he would rush for over 1,000 yards and lead the Raiders to a 12-4 record. The Raiders would play the Washington Redskins in the Super Bowl that year and, behind Allen's 191 rushing yards, they would rout the Redskins 38-9. Allen had two touchdowns in the game, one of which was a 74-yard touchdown run. He was named the game's MVP.
Two years later, Allen would put together his best season as a pro statistically, rushing for 1,759 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also caught 67 passes for 555 yards and 3 more touchdowns receiving. Allen won the league MVP award that year.
Allen finished his career with 12,243 yards rushing to go along with 5,412 receiving yards. He was the first player to ever amass more than 10,000 rushing and 5,000 receiving yards. He also scored 145 touchdowns over his career (123 rushing). His career with the Raiders unfortunately ended in animosity as he had a public split with then-owner Al Davis. Allen would continue his career in Kansas City, however, and won Comeback Player of the Year there in 1993 when he scored 12 touchdowns.
Allen was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2003. His duel rushing and receiving threat, as well as his penchant for getting the ball into the end zone, made him one of the most dangerous running backs to ever play the game.
